RESPONSIBILITIES
The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineering Team in Symantec’s Security Technology and Response (STAR) organization is responsible for the quality of security content that is used on over 120 million desktops, servers and mobile devices around the world. This content includes detection and repair for security risks (e.g. worms, Trojans, viruses, adware, and spyware). The biggest risks to quality are false positives and performance degradation.
As a member of the QA Engineering Team the candidate is responsible for creating, reviewing and improving processes to mitigate the risk of problems with the quality of content.
The role will involve the design, development, maintenance and improvement of tools and systems in order to increase the overall quality of content. Ideally these improvements will comply with established frameworks. One such system involves measuring performance of our content (e.g. anti-virus definitions) on multiple platforms against various file-type data sets and delivering these results in an automated manner to management.
The candidate may also be involved from time to time with code-review, functional, regression, false positive and other testing of content on Symantec products on the Windows platform.
The QA Engineering Team also participates in research. The team has published a number of papers in relation to quality assurance within the anti-virus industry and ideally the candidate will contribute here.
An element of weekend work on a roster basis may be necessary.
