In the real world developers need to be able to develop applications that run on multiple platforms, not just the latest and greatest. Most new machines come with Windows Vista, while existing machines will continue running Windows 2000 or XP. Developers must support this mixed-use environment, because they can’t count on their organization or customers upgrading en masse.
